Catch up 5th July - 11th July 2010

Posted by WhiteSprings on July 12, 2010 at 9:54 AM

The weather has been very warm bringing the fish up in the water, making it interesting fishing for all, with some days being harder than others to catch. The canals and the match lake fishing has been good with some nice weights being reported by the anglers.

Victor Hopkins weighing in 111lb midweek while Richy Powell had a good day on the pleasure lake landing a 2 and a quarter pound roach with some very nice bream at around the 5lb mark. The New canal produced a 14lb 2 common carp off peg 16 for a visiting angler.

Visiting angler Kyle Dylan fished the Pit to land a storming 12 fish within a 24 hour session with a 21lb common being the best weight using popups.

Gareth Gabe and Jamie Oldham done a 3 day session on the specimen lake to land 15 carp including a 30lb and 29lb,  22lb, 20lb, 18lb, and 15lb mirrors with a a 27lb Koi gracing the bank as well.

Another angler from Stoke on Trent landed a 31lb4 Mirror from the Island Peg.

The place to be has been the pleasure and match lakes which have been on fire with the warmer weather with bags in excess of 100lb being reported using baits such as dog biscuit whilst popups and paste on the pleasure lake.

The fishery is now tightening down on people leaving litter as the first two anglers have been banned for leaving their swims strewn with litter after being warned to clean up and not to leave litter behind. White Springs regrets having to take such action however the majority of people are in agreement that keeping the site litter free is a top priority and we have been working consistantly over the last couple of months to make this a reality. Any visitors are reminded that they must take their litter home and can ask at the tackle shop for a bin bag which is provided free of charge.

Catchup 28th june - 4th July 2010

Posted by WhiteSprings on July 4, 2010 at 9:07 AM

The last couple of weeks have been very mixed with the weather becoming very warm putting the fish from of from feeding a little, however in spite of this there have been some good catches in between with our Orange Koi that we weighed 5 years ago when we neeted the lake at 27 and a quarter lb got very close to being caught with two visiting anglers hooking into and losing it at the net. This is the closest that it has been to being caught.

Pat Conway from London on holiday was fishing on peg 2 on the specimen lake and technically wasnt trying to hard as he was only pleasure carp fishing on the lake, he was fishing mid water and hooked into and landed two grass carp at 24 and a half lb and a 22lb grass carp much to the amusement and annoyment of the dedicated specimen carp anglers with him. Good on you Pat show them how it is done eh?!

On the pleasure lake side Derek Giles fishing early morning using his usual favourite surface bait, floating dog biscuit landed a couple of 16 and 17 lb carp fishing from the top.

The new canal this week is the place to be fishing with carp to 12 -14 lb being landed along with the usual silvers. the pegs to be on seems to be 10-17 and all who have fished there have reported good catches.

Catchup

Posted by WhiteSprings on June 25, 2010 at 4:39 AM

Website has been a bit quiet lately because I havent been able to get down to Springs to grab the catch reports due to ill health, also as no-one is sending in any of their catch reports even though we know fish are being banked I cannot print anything on the site so I will take oppertunity to verbally smack all of your hands and remind you all that you are able to post up your own reports and pictures to the site via the news and events page just sign in and click post new and also you can pm me through the site with any results etc etc if you dont want to post yourself.

I know that some have mentioned about the site being dormant over the last couple of months however please bear in mind that I cannot update the site unless I have this information either from Vince or yourselfs, I could post up what I have been up to over the last few weeks personally to fill in the time however I am sure your gonna get bored with that and unless i start dropping lines into my goldfish bowl i wont have many catch reports for you so please please please pm "whitesprings" on the site with any catch reports you have thanks. If you need to post up a picture then you can use http://tinypic.com/ to host and I will grab the picture from there and ftp it to the site. (No account is needed)

Anyway I finally got 5 minutes to drop into Vince last week and I can see that he and the lads there have been very busy over the last few months improving the grounds. He has put up two extra small lakeside shelter cabins on the Speci Lake and they should be finished at the time of writing, he has been working on improving the roads on site and has been re landscaping the area around the scandinavian cabins to make it look better and also to provide better access. There are posts up around the pegs now to stop people parking on the grass and a lot of the pegs have now been made larger and have been rebuilt and rebarked, a lot of the trees that have limted the angler from being able to cast have been removed or chopped back whilst at the same time still allowing there plenty of cover for the carp and other fish to hide and feed.

The road at the back of the new canal has been completed so that it allows people to park at the back of the canal and fish with ease.

And the new measures with regards to rubbish seems to be working and helping in keeping the place as litter free as possible, please dont forget to ask for a rubbish bag at the shop or take all rubbish home with you and if you see anyone being a litter bug report them to Vince.

The tackle shop has undergone a transformation to include a small coffee shop and you can now buy hot/cold food and tea and coffee on site as well as your usual items that are on sale there.

All in all Vince and the lads have been working very hard over the last few months in order to fufill the requests that have come in from you the fishermen. Dont forget to thank them when you see them.

I hear that Nash is coming to White Springs and I will post up more news as and when I get it. Over the next few days I will post up the news that I have been given.

Catch Report May 30th to June 6th 2010

Posted by WhiteSprings on June 7, 2010 at 8:44 AM Comments comments (0)

Unfortunately a lot of the catch reports lately havent got to me as i have been unable to attend Springs so if anyone would like to report their catches please pm WhiteSprings and I will fill in the gaps however in the meantime here are the reports from end of May to 6th of June.

Visiting anglers from Tunbridge Wells landed a 30 Mirror from Peg 1 along with a nice 14lb Koi. On the Pit a 24lb common was reported as gracing the banks from some visiting anglers.

A couple of youngsters Kain Mckenny and Aaron Harris both at the young age of 13 years from Llanelli fished the old cabin on peg 1 of the speci lake and they landed 5 carp which included a 28lb Mirror 24lb Mirror and 3 nice mid double fish, using White Springs Boilys a popular source of catches here at the lakes, they then proceeded to go to peg 2 to see a visiting angler from Kent Gary Woods that had come down to White Springs looking to land a nice common and persuaded him to try out one of the White Springs boilys. He reluctantly obliged the boys to humour them and within 20 mins of him putting out his line with the new bait on he had landed a 32lb common which was a new PB for Gary and he told us that he was over the moon and that the young lads were some of the best anglers that he had met for a long while, well done lads something to be proud of in many ways and well done Gary on your new PB.

On the pleasure side of the fishing the canals have been producing good fish with bags in excess of a hundred pounds along with the match lakes.

Keith Twosome from Havordford West on Peg 13 Match Lake weighed in at 112lb, Tony Wale reports 104lb also on the match lake on peg 22. Geoff Walker weighed in 76.2lb and young Aaron Summers with 64lb 15.

The pleasure lake is producing some nice bags of fish with some nice single weights coming out, with carp to 20lb and bream to 5lb being reported.

32lb from the Pit -Army Mark 13th April

Posted by WhiteSprings on April 13, 2010 at 10:24 AM Comments comments (9)

Army Mark has graced our banks for a couple of days and he surely is mobile at the moment trying out various swims and with true angling form he does it again with this lovely 32lb mirror taken from the Pit Lake using tigernut with popup plastic corn, also shown below is a nice 23lb.8 Mirror taken from Megs corner on the Specimen Lake also using popup corn. He has also fished a 14lb mirror from the Island swim using White Springs banana boiles and a 12lb.7 Koi also using White Springs banana boiles showing us that by moving around you can not only maximise your catching chances but once again that the fish are definately on the feed. Well done Mark I think I am going to have to pop down for a few hours one day and watch you fish Tight Lines Everyone.

Handjob out at 35lb 8-Catch Up 11th April 2010

Posted by WhiteSprings on April 12, 2010 at 10:03 AM Comments comments (0)

HandJob Graces the Banks for Tim Bravery @ 35lb 8

Well hello to one and all, we have a kinda mixture of the last two weeks catch reports here so with the weather turning up the heat on the lakes the fish are starting to show definate signs of moving about again and whilst there have been reports of many anglers in the previous week finding it a bit slow with the bad weather. This week is a different story and what a difference a week makes with the sudden boost in temperatures causing the catch rate to steadily rise and with the weekend proved to be a stormer of a weekend for some on the Specimen Lake whilst all other lakes reporting good catches as well.

With the previous week being very slow with the heavy cold rain slowing the fish down and eastly winds keeping the fish down in the water it has been a slog for many anglers to even tempt the fish out especially on the more prolific lakes such as the specimen, even in the slow conditions in the previous weekend reports the canals seemed to be fishing ok for the conditions with reports of 60-80lb bags coming out.
The pirates had open match on the match lake with Jeff Walker fishing peg 13 to land 93lb10, Steve Davies was 2nd on peg 7 with 63lb. Tony Wale was 3rd off peg 22 with 39lb.

The last weekends match was won by Michael Williams on the new canal with 53.4 whilst Jason Mcgreedy on Holiday on peg 11 weighed in 114lb again in a short time of 5 and a half hours using maggots and sweetcorn just going to show that being on the right peg at the right time can make all of the difference.
This week fishing on the match lake and canals has picked up in pace, with the water temperatures geting a lot higher and thus encouraging the fish to move more, this weekend Tony Wale weighed in 90.4 on peg 18 of the match lake fishing sweetcorn in just 5 hours of fishing by fishing 6 inches from the top, so the weights and fish are there for the if you are fishing in a manner sutible to the conditions as the match boys are proving time and time again at Springs.

The pleasure lake seems to be the place to be with reports of nice carp and bream coming out of there in the previous week along with some nice bags of roach. This Easter week saw the lake being packed out and with many lines in the water however this still didnt deter the fish from gracing our banks with many catches comeing out over the last week or so, it did however slow down on the lake on Saturday however the majority of fishing was being done via ledger on the lake Saturday and as Tony proved they were about 6 inch from the top on that day probably enjoying the sun, which meant that the Pole Anglers on the lake had a much better day than the ledgerers.

On the pit and specimen lake in the previous week it has been slow again due to the weather with Mark Powell landed 2 fish on a day session a 23.8 and a 14lb Mirror on the Pit and the fish seeming to be coming from pegs 8,9 and 10 on the Speciman Lake. The best results on the previous  week being a 22lb mirror with other fish coming out on weights down to mid doubles.
4 lads from manchester fished the new cabin, after seeing fish toping and moving around they manged to fish the best being a 21lb mirror however just off the bank they also lost what was reported to be a very nice fish. The one that got away eh lads?

This Easter week however despite being very slow to start in the early part of the week started to pick up a bit and even I managed to get down to the bank for a quick 24, unfortunately I in the few hours I actually managed to get rods in the water wasnt as sucessful as some of the anglers to the left of me who had far more success than me.
Mr Mansfield in the Log Cabin on the Speciman lake pulled out 2 mid twentys (unconfirmed weights) and what could only be described as Mint fish!

Also on the Speci in the first two hours of their fishing session Lee (Alfy) Calford landed a 22lb and then John Howells who jumped on the island after him this weeked managed to pull out a lovely 28lb mirror and another mint 16lb mirror using the now famous White Springs Boilys, so well done there.

Steve Martin aged 23 from Lanrumney nr Cardiff shown above, just as I was leaving for the day, caught my eye as he was weighing up this rather lovely 27lb Mirror on Peg 11 of the Specimen Lake and I stopped to take some piccys (which I have sent to you now Steve) of the fish, He told me that this was a new PB for him  so congratulations Steve and that he had tempted the fish onto the bank with a meal of tigernuts and popup corn over a bed of hemp and landed the fish with his trusty Shimano Technium rod and Shimano Ultegra Reel. Well done on the new PB Steve and we hope to see you back on the bank real soon.

However the real star angler of the week has to be relative newcomer to White Springs Mr Tim Bravery who told me some weeks ago that he was going to attack the specimen lake until he had cracked it and spent a few day sessions on the lake blanking, however he hasnt let this deter him and in only his second 24hour session on the lake has landed a rather unusual coloured carp at 12lb 4 using White Springs Boilys ( not sure if it is classed as a Koi I shall leave you guys decide picture doesnt really do it justice as it looked almost white on the bank) and in the morning just before he was due to leave he had a run which he thought was a bream in the beginning but actually turned out to be Handjob (Shown at top of page) at a lovely weight of 35lb 8 smashing his previous pb of 21lb to smithereens and also on the White Springs Boilys. Well done Tim excellent effort and congratulations on your new PB I think that it is safe to say that you have definately made an massive impact on the lake and you may well be the angler to watch out for this year. Well done mate.

In other news White Springs has had a massive clean up recently as litter is our main problem at the moment with a few scruffy anglers causing the majority of the mess at the lakeside so please please dont leave litter behind. If anyone is caught deliberatly leaving litter on the bankside we may impose a cleaning charge or even ban you from the bankside so make sure that you leave your swim clean and if you do see litter in your swim, please help us keep the place clean and pick it up. Vince will happily supply anyone with bin bags if you need them.

There are many new changes coming to White Springs and the rules are going to be tightened up in order to produce a much better venue for the serious anglers which will be announced over the next few weeks, we are in the process of renewing the swims on the specimen lake and also filling in any areas on the lake that arent actual swims to stop people just setting up camp in what should be a baiting area,  and also we are moving to using barbless hooks only on all lakes and will work effectively to reduce the amount of lines in the water. Vince has told me that more news will be announced in time but plans to revitalise the Specimen Lake are already in progress. we would like to remind everyone that an unhooking mat at the side of the lake is essential and anyone found without one may be asked to leave.

The White Springs Boilys which are exclusively rolled by top bait experts are flying out of the shop as they are proving very popular with the fish (Handjob (see top picture) certainly likes them :P ) and the demand for them is high, so dont delay and grab your stocks whilst you can but please leave some for me

Tight Lines Everyone.

Brief Catchup to 24th March 2010

Posted by WhiteSprings on March 24, 2010 at 5:37 AM Comments comments (2)

White Springs would like to share its good news with you, after extensive testing and mixing with different boilies the springs bannana flavour boilie is now available for sale in the tackle shop, it is coloured a light yellow brown colour and smells lovely and it is now for sale at a special price of 7.50 a kilio. Not only proving popular with the anglers is it also proving popular with the fish and during the last month of testing it has proved to be catching fish with Martin Mathews and Gavin the bailiff catching fish with them on the same day they went on sale in the shop. Whilst on the specimen lake Martin fished catching 4 carp to 20lb including a 19lb common in mint condition and also managed to pull in a couple of thirtys with one being 32.2lb. Also on the lake Paul Thomas caught 4 carp (weights unconfirmed) on the nash match 1 boilies. It seems as the weathers temperature has picked up so has the fishing and the last few slow weeks has come to an end and the fish seem to be back on the feed as on the other side of the site the pleasure lake was fishing well with carp up to 15lb being reported to us by several anglers, coming out at the various pegs.

The Match Anglers Winter Lague has now come to a finish with an extremely close last match with 5 anglers angling hard for 2nd place. The overall winner for the 2nd year in a row was Nigel Morris fighting off some good anglers who were close behind. Pipping everyone to the post in 2nd place was Chris Hall with 181lb 5oz,  3rd rob whittshire 179lb10 Ritchard Barnett 113lbs. Vince would like to thank Nigel Morris and Rob Dyer for organizing the matches.

In a seperate event on the new canal The Pirates held a match with Steve Davies winning with 81.5 catching mainly carp and bream using maggotts.

There has of course been a tremendous amount of fish over the last few weeks that have come out and not been reported, I have reports of a new 32lb'r  Mirror coming out of the specimen lake and also a new very very long 26lb'r common which havent been seen before and would like to point out that not only do 70% of the fish in the lake do not get caught, but 90% of those arent reported so new fish to some anglers coming out of the lakes are not an uncommon thing. Also I cannot report things if I do not get the reports coming in so dont be shy if you catch either post up by clicking the post new story or clicking here or send it to me (with pictures hopefully) and I will report it for you.

In the meantime good fishing all and get down there whilst the going is good.

Quick Catch report

Posted by WhiteSprings on March 20, 2010 at 10:35 AM Comments comments (8)

Havent been about lately to really manage the catch reports and still trying to get Gavin to post them up for me (hint hint Gavin :P ) but it seems the fishing on the specimen has been quite slow lately for some and ok for others, guess it depends on the swim, Martin Matthews from Carmarthen has managed to pull out 2 * 32lb's and about another 19 or 20 fish from weights from 12- 25lb in a marathon session on the specimen lake of nearly a month, I think that he has been pulling fish out at the rate of about nearly 1 a day. Some of the youngsters I spoke to on the lake today told me that they missed one last night but had a few out on the previous day in the twentys mark. There are obviously a lot more fish that have come out including a few thirtys over the last few weeks but I just dont have the details and if Alfy is reading this then I still havent had the photos m8 if you have sent them.

Tim Bravery a newcomer to White Springs pulled out a few on the pleasure lake last weekend including a lovely 21.2 lb which was his new Pb so well done there.

The match and canal lakes have been fishing quite well despite the weather and the Pit which has been closed off for feeding is now reopened. I will try and make it back up the site in the next few days where i shall try and get a more comphrehensive report. I was actually due to fish there this weekend however something has come up as usual and stopped me from being able to do so. So I will try and rewrite this when i have more information.

I understand we have already reported this catch and I believe it is in this report

News and Reports

However I may be wrong and it might be one of the fish caught from the Somerset anglers in Feb 2010, my apologys to the angler but my information is limited.

I have only just received the photos so I have scanned the photos and placed them up on the site for everyone to see.

The angler who caught this lovely looking fish is Gary Ireland from Bridgewater in Somerset and the reported weight of the fish was 35lb 14. A cracking weight. Well done Gary and if you read this and would like to post me more details below it would be appreciated. Thanks for the photo.

Lewis MacDonald - Session of a Lifetime!

Posted by Lewis on February 21, 2010 at 3:12 PM Comments comments (3)

On the 21st of February, i headed down to WhiteSprings fishery in south wales. When i got there i decided to set up on the old cabin swim as nobody was fishing there. For the last few weeks, this had been a spot on which i had blanked on. So with the rods cast out and all the gear ready i sat down and drank a cup of tea while the sun rised. Wtih no action, at about 12 o clock i recast a small pva bag filled with mainlines cell boilies on to what seemed to be a real hot spot. 10 minutes later I was battling it out with a small mirror which turned out to be 12lb 7ounces.   I then put both rods out on to the spot and shortly after i had another lively little mirror which weighed 13lb 2 and looked great in its winter colours.    About half an hour later i had an absolute screamer on the left hand rod and, following a spirited fight, i had a new PB Common in the net weighing 18lb 1oz.    One side of the fish looked great but the other was a bit random with the scaling pattern. After returning the fish, i had another take that felt like a big fish but unfortunatly the hooklink snapped but oh well, you cant land them all! I shouldnt have worried though because a few more minutes later, i had an absolutly stunning, fin perfect common of 17lbs exactly on the mat.    After all the action, it went dead for a few hours and then i had one last run as i was packing up. A beautiful mirror carp of 16lb 3oz was on the end and as the light was fadeing i managed to bundle him into the back of the net.

After a action packed day at 'Springs' i packed up and went home a very happy boy!

Update To Steven Huxter Story

Christian Du Plessis 31lb 4 Mirror on Specimen Lake

Posted by WhiteSprings on February 12, 2010 at 3:57 PM Comments comments (0)

Christian Du Plessis aged 25 from Caerphilly landed this beautiful 31lb 4 Mirror on the 3rd of Feb about 5.30pm in last light from the soil shed swim using a standard bolt on hair rig with safety non fixed lead system and pop up corn on his Fox Warrior ES rod and his Fox Stratos 10,000 reel lined with Adrenaline and fitted with a Fox Arma size 7 hook. He has a Pb of 38lb Mirror caught from our very own White Springs Speimen lake and usually uses Crab and Mussel Richworth bait however he decided to use Pop up corn on this line and it proved to be a winner for him. He was down for a weeks session with some of his mates and had endured the ice and snow often having to break the ice whilst in the boat with his mates to clear a channel to fish in , as we can see this proved to be successful and the proof they say is in the landing He started fishing with his dad many years ago and has enjoyed fishing ever since the age of 6, he loves coming to White Springs because of the beautiful surroundings, the charasmatic people and of course the specimen fish that can be caught here at White Springs. He has fished here for about 2 years now and since discovering White Springs it has been his main place that he enjoys to go fishing, one of his most memorable times fishing here was when he caught his PB and he tells me that he nearly let it go as the boys he had been fishing with had been winding him up by pulling his alarms and making him think he had one on, so when his alarms went with the 38lb'r he nearly ignored it thinking that the boys were winding him up again, so you can imagine his suprise when he finally started to reel in his line to find a rather large fish on the end. His advice to up and coming anglers is to go out and to enjoy yourself but not to take too many things that you read or are told too seriously and not to worry if you blank as every time you fish you should be taking things from the session away with you and use it to improve your next session, even if you blank. so just relax enjoy your surroundsing and have condfidence in your setup and the fish will come. Best of luck in your endeavours Christian and we hope to see you down here more often, tight lines.

Catch news to 6th Feb 2010

Posted by WhiteSprings on February 12, 2010 at 2:51 PM Comments comments (0)

Sorry the reports a little late this week its been a bit hectic and even though Vince gave me the report last weekend I had to go back down today as I couldnt find it anywhere for love nor money. Still better late than never.

He tells me that it hasnt been a bad week with the weather a little warmer after the last couple of weeks of snow and ice, however he says that the fishery has been very much either off or on over the last few weeks there are somedays that you cannot go wrong and then others where you struggle to even get a bite.

If you do well then you do very very well like Simon Jones mid week on the old canal on pegs 24, not the best of pegs in the conditions however he still managed to weigh in 75lb of carp and some nice slabs of bream some which weighed in at above the 4lb mark, not a bad few slabs there in such conditions, whilst Clive Beckett and his mate sat on the match lake and struggled to get a bite, yet when they moved to the pleasure lake they bagged up on skimmers and roach.

Last sundays open match on the canal was fishing ok especially after the anglers had to break ice to start and also had to keep breaking ice as it was forming around their pegs most of the day, they still however went on to produce the below results, well done guys.

1 Luke Peg 15 -35lb 8

2 Ryan Huges Peg 4 -27lb 1

3 Lyn Jones Peg 27 -23lb 8

4 Mark Jones Peg 33 -21lb 5

On the Specimen lake its been a little slower but three fish over 30lb has come out. Christian Du Plessis and Tom Jones pulled out a 31lb 4 Mirror and a 30lb 8 Mirror

Mark Lewis on Peg 12 landed a 35lb 1 along with a 16lb2 and 15lb mirror using cell boilies size 8 big t hooks on snakeskin hook lengths. Picture below.

2 visiting anglers from Essex lost a rather large fish in their estimation at the point they went to net and land him (the one that got away eh guys? :P ) and have vowed to return to catch it again , good luck with that guys.

Last reports I had from Vince about the fishabilty of the lakes is that there is ice forming on the lakes in the mornings but mainly dissappearing by afternoon and that two lads from Somerset had managed to land 5 from the Specimen so fishing is looking like it will be cold but on this weekend, he warns to ring to make sure you dont waste your journey in the mornings however it looks good for the weekend as long as the temp doesnt drop too badly in the night.

Tight Lines All and I hope to see you there on the weekend.

good days fishing

A right good days Perching

Posted by Michael milton on February 3, 2010 at 6:46 PM Comments comments (1)

A good days december winters fishing at White springs fishery.

I can remember it well. I went on the old canal to fish for some perch. I started with a ledger rod down the edge to my right, I baited with red maggots, and fished a freshwater prawn on them, and did the same with the other rod, this rod was fishing to my left but with a float. This i fished over depth for lift bites.

It wasn't long before the ledger rods tip started tapping three or four taps and around it went and i was into a nice perch around the 2lb mark,so i put it in the keepnet, within five minutes the float started to slide across and out away from the bank i struck and i was into another nice perch again around the 2lb + so  again this one was in the keepnet.

That was it for the float rod.

I had TWO more good perch after that, they came on three dead, red maggots fished in the same spot. I decided to release the four perch as they had been in the keepnet for a while. So i needed some photos and a witness for one of the best days still-water perch fishing (excluding spinning for them on a nice river) i have ever had.

,The weights of the perch 1lb10oz ,2lb3oz, 2lb7oz. 2lb9oz

 total bag weight 8lb 3oz.

(UPDATED) New Pb for Steven Huxter 31lb2 Specimen

Posted by WhiteSprings on January 31, 2010 at 3:30 AM Comments comments (2)

Steven Huxter aged 23 from PenPedairheol was woken at 3.30 in the morning in the snow to find his lines in a frozen lake on the Soil Shed Swim and his alarm sounding, whilst playing the fish he was helped by his two mates Christian Duplessis and Tom James who broke ice in the lake to allow him to land this lovely Mirror that doubled his PB from 14lb to a lovely and very respectable 31lb2.

Well done Steven and a lovely fish caught on only his third visit to White Springs and in probably some of the harshest fishing conditions that we have seen for years proving once again that White Springs is no ordinary fishing venue

(Update-interview with the angler)

Steven Huxter likes using a standard hair rig with a leadcore and fox safety non fixed lead system, his favourite rod is his John Wilson Signature 12ft Rod with a Flan reel which he tells me is a foreign make but a very good reel coupled with TFG 12lb line and a Fox Arma Size 7 hook which he likes using in conjunction with the mainline bait range. He was down here for a quick 48hour when he caught his new PB and he started fishing when he was just 3 and a half with his grandfather and has enjoyed the sport ever since. He loves being outdoors camping and enjoys fishing with the boys and enjoying the social aspect of the fishing, he especially likes he tells me the freedom that fishing brings him and the fact that usually there are no nagging girlfriends to pester him, a sentiment I am sure that many will agree with He loves the thrill of fishing and the adrenaline and buzz of the fight and the catch and when you land your new PB of course there is nothing like it. He loves coming to White Springs because of the specimen fish that can be caught here and also the fact that it is close to hand for him and not that far to travel to. He hasnt however fished here that long and this is only his third trip to White Springs so a good result for the youngster. His advice to anglers is just to get out here on the bank and enjoy you bank time, ask the regular anglers for advice and to keep your rigs simple as they work better in the long run, he also joked with me saying that you should also try and wind Vince up as much as possible, something that again many will no doubt agree with

Good luck Steven with your endeavours and we hope to see you down here again.

Catch Reports to Jan 30th 2010

Despite the very cold and windy conditions last week, the anglers still turned up in force with us having to turn some away trying to get onto the specimen lake, with the lake being full and the anglers bivvied up ready for the weeked they woke up to find the lake had frozen over and snow was on the ground, however the fish was still feeding for some.

Lee (Afly) Calford of Llanelli at the start of the week managed to pull out a 12lb approx Mirror (shown below) and a 14lb10 Leather (shown above) in the last few hours of a 48hr marking the start of the fish starting to come out on the bank again to the specimen lake for this week.

Steven Huxter from Caerphilly caught his first fish for 2010 on only his third trip to Springs smashing his previous pb of 14lb and taking it to a fantastic 31lb 2. Waking up in the morning to his alarms he had to have the ice broken in order to land the fish, but what a start to the year.

Martin Matthews from Carmarthen having had to pull two of his rods out due to the ice still managed to get two takes on his single rod and landed 2 fish using just the one rod one after another, whilst the other anglers looking on with shouts of Jammy ****** floating across the bank proving that if you find the fish then you will be able to catch even under the worst conditions.

The Pleasure lakes have seen their share of anglers braving the weather and a visiting angler managed to land a lovely 15lb 'er from the Cabin swim of the Pleasure Lake along with 5 other reported fish ranging between 3lb to 9lb in weight.

On the canals the perch and bream are still being found using maggots and the winner of the last match held on them was Rob Jones with a nice weight of 89lb 2.

Please dont forget that the majority of fish caught go unreported at the lakes so if you do know of fish being caught there that hasnt been reported to us then send WhiteSprings a pm to let me know the details and I shall post it up or better still members can report their own catches.

The match and canal lakes have seen some good weights coming out especially in the last few matches being held on them and on the other lakes the Pit has seen a few 15-18lb carp have come out , but the place to be has been on the Pleasure lake for the carp, bream and a couple of nice 3 1/2 lb perch even making a welcome show to the anglers there. On the Specimen side of Springs the lake has been quite slow due to length of time it was frozen for, however they are starting to make an appearance with a Angler from Brecon on his first visit pulling out a 24lb Mirror from the Point on a night time run and a couple of smaller chunks coming out as well.

Dont forget that memberships are due for renewal and anyone buying their membership now will be entitled to half price fishing on the memberships already discounted prices during the months of Jan and Feb in 2010, so if you are looking to save then with the membership coming down to only £50.00 for the year it will save you loads and is definately worth getting so dont delay get yours today.

Been very quiet on the catch front lately as obviously the lakes like every other fishery up and down the country have been frozen in what can only be described as the coldest and worst winter for over 20 years if not 30 years. We saw the specimen lake with over a foot of ice at some points and the Pleasure Lake for the first time in who knows how long started to freeze over as well.  I noted in last weeks carp talk that there were hardly any reports of any fish coming out anywhere up and down the country yet White Springs still managed to pull out the odd 30 here and there during this freeze. Not bad eh?

With the temperature rising and the lakes now fully unfrozen as many a previous winter fisherman will tell you there is now only one place to be fishing and that is here at the Springs.

They will tell you that White Springs has always fished well in the Winter and it will be interesting to see what comes after one of the coldest spells we have experianced. Will keep you posted.

If you do have any catch reports you would like to add, please become a site member and you can then add your own reports as it is difficult for me to be at the bank 24/7 and even if I could I would rather be fishing :P

I know that 75% of the catches are currently being unreported on the site so please if you catch then post it up pictures or no pictures, or pm me WhiteSprings on the site and I will gladly do it for you.

Thanks Alex

My New PB 33lb on Speci

On the 17th dec i went down springs for a 24hr session on a freebie as i had won the nov competition which i really enjoyed, two reasons for this was one not having to pay vince to fish, his face was a picture we all know how much he loves to have your money cheers vince ha ha. now about the fishing i was the only one fishing that night as the other two anglers that had been fishing were going home as i arrived. thats the thing i love the most about the winter is its always nice and quiet as all the summer anglers pack away their gear until next spring. having set up on the old cabin swim my favourite i had to wait until the following morning for my one and only run which was well worth the wait and the freezing conditions as it was my old mate the big common at a new p b weight of 33lb on the button, the fish is in tremendous condition like a bar of gold with its winter colouring. i've now caught this fish five times in the last two years it obviously likes my bait and having its photo taken with me ha ha. i dont understand how people dont fish down springs in the winter as i've always had my best results down there during this period, its definately the best winter water around this area. i know its hard fishing with the cold and the long dark nights but the rewards are there for those who percivere. merry christmas everyone and maybe see you down springs soon.  cheers zoee.
