News and Catch Reports Post New Entry

Quick Catch report

Posted by WhiteSprings on March 20, 2010 at 10:35 AM

Havent been about lately to really manage the catch reports and still trying to get Gavin to post them up for me (hint hint Gavin :P ) but it seems the fishing on the specimen has been quite slow lately for some and ok for others, guess it depends on the swim, Martin Matthews from Carmarthen has managed to pull out 2 * 32lb's and about another 19 or 20 fish from weights from 12- 25lb in a marathon session on the specimen lake of nearly a month, I think that he has been pulling fish out at the rate of about nearly 1 a day. Some of the youngsters I spoke to on the lake today told me that they missed one last night but had a few out on the previous day in the twentys mark. There are obviously a lot more fish that have come out including a few thirtys over the last few weeks but I just dont have the details and if Alfy is reading this then I still havent had the photos m8 if you have sent them.

Tim Bravery a newcomer to White Springs pulled out a few on the pleasure lake last weekend including a lovely 21.2 lb which was his new Pb so well done there.

The match and canal lakes have been fishing quite well despite the weather and the Pit which has been closed off for feeding is now reopened. I will try and make it back up the site in the next few days where i shall try and get a more comphrehensive report. I was actually due to fish there this weekend however something has come up as usual and stopped me from being able to do so. So I will try and rewrite this when i have more information.

Tight Lines Everyone#

peter i see what you mean but it is a commercial and Most commercials are full of carp if you want to catch Barbel you go to a river as babel should not be held in still waters and not in big numbers, and there are plenty of tench in the lakes to catch its the fact that u got to fish pacifically for them and usually (as at WS) the carp bully them out so they dont get chance to be caught.

I know im off the subject here but everythin is carp carp carp these days,no disrespect to carp or there fisherman,im one myself, but it would be nice to catch the good old Tench in large weights or even in large numbers and/or Barbel etc.
I have however had the biggest Perch out of here ive ever seen 4lb 2oz last year and some very big Roach, every time i come here its Carp all day with the occasional roach or Skimmer and Perch, but mainly Carp,I personally would like to see more Tench come out and even the possibility of Crucian Carp, these two fish are by far the best fighting fish pound for pound and seem to be the forgotten species on Commercial fisheries these days, dont get me wrong i love catching Carp, but when your catching 10 to 20 small carp each visit it would be nice on occasions to see a large Green Lump come out or even several small crucians...
when i heard you were restockin with several small carp i was infact quite disappointed in a way as i feel theres already more than enough Carp in your lakes and felt that a high stock of Tench and or Crucians would have been a more attractive and appropriate fish...
hope i made sense and havnt offended anyone.

Lol Most stocking fisherys will tell you that their rate of growth from a c3 to c4 fish is approx 3lb 4 oz, simmo fish can easily and commonly reach up to 5lb, the EA report the growth rate of carp on its website as quote :- "Growth rates of over 6 pounds a year have been observed in rich waters."
Its well documented and WS has some of the best waters around, hence why i posted the 3-5lb mark, not every fish of course grows to that size or at that growth rate, otherwise every lake would have forties but then not every human is 6ft 4 and 20 stone either however it doesnt mean that it cant happen it just isnt the common thing. Hope you get my point.

Im full of the head flu at the mo and the 70% comment it should have read that probably only 70% of the fish have been caught in the lake, or that about 30% of the fish hasnt. Silly me too much of a rush to get the comment in should have read it back first before i went offline :P

Still it is very suprising how many fish come out each year that havent been seen for a while, it is very common for a fish to be caught then not caught for some years and of course during that time they gain weight and can look completely different fish. Hope that makes sense to you

Allthough hard to believe, on most waters, most of the fish dont get caught! Each fish has thier own way of not getting caught, and some are not as good at others at 'gettin away with it'. Its the ones that get caught often that get recognised as noticeable fish or target fish, but i like catching the ones that have never been cuaght, a lot more challenging!!!

Any way thats just my opinion :)

Thanks for your reply Alex. I had heard from a very good source that there had been some large fish stocked in very recently???? Must just be hear say eh?
I find it quite strange that you say 70% of the fish have never been caught? Surely such a popular water of WS size and the fact there are so many repeat captures leaves that a bit to question I'm afraid. If that is the case with the number of fish regularly caught there, then I would suggest your assumption of weight gains of up to 5lbs a year to be a bit unlikely with such a high density of fish per acre!
I won't let this put me off though as I'm really looking forward to coming down in June and I'll have to phone Vincent myself to book up a chalet.
Crikey that Martin chap must be minted! A whole month on there. I'm lucky to get an odd 24hr session in these days with work and my kids etc.

Look forward to meeting you all in June

@Barney. Having pulled Vince about this stocking as frankly I was unaware of it and am usually there at a stocking to take the pictures, he has told me that there hasnt been a stocking a 38lb has been reported being caught in the pit and that the pit was closed down to feed the lake for a few weeks as it wasnt really fished over the last couple of months. Vince didnt think it was fair to feed the lake every day and then have people fish it so he closed it off.
Please bear in mind that 70% of the fish in the lakes have never been caught and that fish that were stocked years ago gain weight at about 3-5lb per year, so a 20lb stocked 5 years ago could easily now be a 35lb -45lb

Hi Barney. My name is Alex and I manage the website for White Springs, however I do not live on the actual WS complex itself, this is actually about 10 miles down the road from me, so I can only report on items that I have information on, I havent been there for about 8 weeks due to illness, I was due down there today actually to pick up all the latest news and catch reports but my children were ill and I was at the doctors with them....
These reasons would be why those storys havent been reported yet and the reason to why there are no pictures of them is that i have no pictures of them. Hope that explains to why the story is absent from the site..

Hi, i was just wandering why there was nothing on here about the stocking of new big fish you have?

I would certainly like to here more about them and see a few pictures if anyone has any? I'm thinking of coming down on a holiday in June so I'd be really interested to here a bit about the stock.

Thanks
Barney
