HandJob Graces the Banks for Tim Bravery @ 35lb 8

Well hello to one and all, we have a kinda mixture of the last two weeks catch reports here so with the weather turning up the heat on the lakes the fish are starting to show definate signs of moving about again and whilst there have been reports of many anglers in the previous week finding it a bit slow with the bad weather. This week is a different story and what a difference a week makes with the sudden boost in temperatures causing the catch rate to steadily rise and with the weekend proved to be a stormer of a weekend for some on the Specimen Lake whilst all other lakes reporting good catches as well.
With the previous week being very slow with the heavy cold rain slowing the fish down and eastly winds keeping the fish down in the water it has been a slog for many anglers to even tempt the fish out especially on the more prolific lakes such as the specimen, even in the slow conditions in the previous weekend reports the canals seemed to be fishing ok for the conditions with reports of 60-80lb bags coming out.
The pirates had open match on the match lake with Jeff Walker fishing peg 13 to land 93lb10, Steve Davies was 2nd on peg 7 with 63lb. Tony Wale was 3rd off peg 22 with 39lb.
The last weekends match was won by Michael Williams on the new canal with 53.4 whilst Jason Mcgreedy on Holiday on peg 11 weighed in 114lb again in a short time of 5 and a half hours using maggots and sweetcorn just going to show that being on the right peg at the right time can make all of the difference.
This week fishing on the match lake and canals has picked up in pace, with the water temperatures geting a lot higher and thus encouraging the fish to move more, this weekend Tony Wale weighed in 90.4 on peg 18 of the match lake fishing sweetcorn in just 5 hours of fishing by fishing 6 inches from the top, so the weights and fish are there for the if you are fishing in a manner sutible to the conditions as the match boys are proving time and time again at Springs.
The pleasure lake seems to be the place to be with reports of nice carp and bream coming out of there in the previous week along with some nice bags of roach. This Easter week saw the lake being packed out and with many lines in the water however this still didnt deter the fish from gracing our banks with many catches comeing out over the last week or so, it did however slow down on the lake on Saturday however the majority of fishing was being done via ledger on the lake Saturday and as Tony proved they were about 6 inch from the top on that day probably enjoying the sun, which meant that the Pole Anglers on the lake had a much better day than the ledgerers.
On the pit and specimen lake in the previous week it has been slow again due to the weather with Mark Powell landed 2 fish on a day session a 23.8 and a 14lb Mirror on the Pit and the fish seeming to be coming from pegs 8,9 and 10 on the Speciman Lake. The best results on the previous week being a 22lb mirror with other fish coming out on weights down to mid doubles.
4 lads from manchester fished the new cabin, after seeing fish toping and moving around they manged to fish the best being a 21lb mirror however just off the bank they also lost what was reported to be a very nice fish. The one that got away eh lads?
This Easter week however despite being very slow to start in the early part of the week started to pick up a bit and even I managed to get down to the bank for a quick 24, unfortunately I in the few hours I actually managed to get rods in the water wasnt as sucessful as some of the anglers to the left of me who had far more success than me.
Mr Mansfield in the Log Cabin on the Speciman lake pulled out 2 mid twentys (unconfirmed weights) and what could only be described as Mint fish!
Also on the Speci in the first two hours of their fishing session Lee (Alfy) Calford landed a 22lb and then John Howells who jumped on the island after him this weeked managed to pull out a lovely 28lb mirror and another mint 16lb mirror using the now famous White Springs Boilys, so well done there.

Steve Martin aged 23 from Lanrumney nr Cardiff shown above, just as I was leaving for the day, caught my eye as he was weighing up this rather lovely 27lb Mirror on Peg 11 of the Specimen Lake and I stopped to take some piccys (which I have sent to you now Steve) of the fish, He told me that this was a new PB for him so congratulations Steve and that he had tempted the fish onto the bank with a meal of tigernuts and popup corn over a bed of hemp and landed the fish with his trusty Shimano Technium rod and Shimano Ultegra Reel. Well done on the new PB Steve and we hope to see you back on the bank real soon. ![]()

However the real star angler of the week has to be relative newcomer to White Springs Mr Tim Bravery who told me some weeks ago that he was going to attack the specimen lake until he had cracked it and spent a few day sessions on the lake blanking, however he hasnt let this deter him and in only his second 24hour session on the lake has landed a rather unusual coloured carp at 12lb 4 using White Springs Boilys ( not sure if it is classed as a Koi I shall leave you guys decide picture doesnt really do it justice as it looked almost white on the bank) and in the morning just before he was due to leave he had a run which he thought was a bream in the beginning but actually turned out to be Handjob (Shown at top of page) at a lovely weight of 35lb 8 smashing his previous pb of 21lb to smithereens and also on the White Springs Boilys. Well done Tim excellent effort and congratulations on your new PB I think that it is safe to say that you have definately made an massive impact on the lake and you may well be the angler to watch out for this year. Well done mate.
In other news White Springs has had a massive clean up recently as litter is our main problem at the moment with a few scruffy anglers causing the majority of the mess at the lakeside so please please dont leave litter behind. If anyone is caught deliberatly leaving litter on the bankside we may impose a cleaning charge or even ban you from the bankside so make sure that you leave your swim clean and if you do see litter in your swim, please help us keep the place clean and pick it up. Vince will happily supply anyone with bin bags if you need them.
There are many new changes coming to White Springs and the rules are going to be tightened up in order to produce a much better venue for the serious anglers which will be announced over the next few weeks, we are in the process of renewing the swims on the specimen lake and also filling in any areas on the lake that arent actual swims to stop people just setting up camp in what should be a baiting area, and also we are moving to using barbless hooks only on all lakes and will work effectively to reduce the amount of lines in the water. Vince has told me that more news will be announced in time but plans to revitalise the Specimen Lake are already in progress. we would like to remind everyone that an unhooking mat at the side of the lake is essential and anyone found without one may be asked to leave.
The White Springs Boilys which are exclusively rolled by top bait experts are flying out of the shop as they are proving very popular with the fish (Handjob (see top picture) certainly likes them
) and the demand for them is high, so dont delay and grab your stocks whilst you can but please leave some for me ![]()
Tight Lines Everyone.
