The Carp Crew Forum Social in aid of Cardiff Children?s Cancer Unit was held at the fishery last weekend and it was attended by over 20 anglers and their guests on the specimen lake.
The weekend proved to be a massive hit as the carp although they were beginning to spawn came out a plenty.
The event was held over 48 hours, starting at 12 noon on Friday 3rd June 2011 and ending 12 noon Sunday 5th June.
Some of the anglers were new to the fishery and this was their first time on the specimen lake and after speaking to them, they were surprised by the amount of carp that were caught considering the pressure, as many anglers fished to the limit of three rods.
The barbecue laid on by Vince on Saturday afternoon provided refreshment and a chance for all the anglers to have a chat about their captures and losses.
There was in the region of 12 twenty pound plus fish caught and many upper doubles as well.
The event was won by Mark Bennett who was fishing peg ten. He had taken an early lead with two mirror carp of fourteen and twenty five pounds respectively.
Alan Price of Nash Tackle, fishing the point with fishery manager Gavin Wellington, was running Mark pretty close with his first three captures of a 11lb 8oz common, 14 lb 3 oz and 14lb 11oz mirrors.
He then took the lead, not only in the overall weight division but also the heaviest fish category with a stunning 26lb 8oz mirror.
Alan then went into overdrive as over the weekend fishing with the wind he eventually ended up landing fourteen and losing two fish overall. He was testing the new Nash Monster Squid Black boilie which turned out to be a sure fire winner with the carp.
Then at about 6am on Sunday morning I received a call from Mark telling me that he had a forty pound fish on the bank.
After the official weighing and photographs the fish turned out to be a mirror called Hand Job which tilted the scales round to a massive thirty nine pound eight ounces, coincidently a fish that had only been caught a few weeks previously by Alan at thirty nine pounds.
Mark and his fishing partner James Tindal were overjoyed with the capture and again as many times before, White Springs has produced a personal best for yet another angler.

At the presentation at the end of the social the prizes were handed out for the biggest fish and also for the charity?s raffle.
All monies raised will be held by Vince and then added to the proceeds from the forthcoming Tony Smith Memorial Cup which will be held in August. We are hoping to exceed the £1000 pound plus that was raised last year
Places are still available for this event but are selling out fast.
I would like to add special thanks to Vince for allowing the lake to be used for the event and to Steve Maddox for organising such a well run social.
To Brian and Dianne our official photographer for the event.
And to all the regulars who fish White Springs in their continued support of these charity events.
The official photos are to follow, but if you have any you wish to share or want post your pictures please email at jacktaff1965@yahoo.co.uk
Tight lines to all attendees and I look forward to next year?s event.
Regards.
Richard.
